Are there any carers out there who know what to do when the person they care for becomes violent or aggressive? The police don't want to know, the social services just come in and ask the person being cared for if they are ok and when they say "yes", the social workers goes away. They never ask me how I feel?

I certainly understand the problem of social/care workers asking a service user how they are, then just ticking a box when the service user says "OK". Of course the professionals aren't responsible for supporting you as a carer so they can't take your concerns into account. If you haven't already done so I'd suggest contacting Suffolk Family Carers. I've found them extremely helpful and supportive, even when things seem impossible. Their details are here http://www.suffolk-carers.org.uk/. I've also found the forums on Carers UK can be helpful http://www.carersuk.org/Forums/

yes i agree, i have found suffolk family carers very helpful but the social services do still have a duty to provide support for family carers too, but i have found you really have to fight for them to provide that, as a family carer you are entitled to a carer assessment fro yourself and one for the cared for, so keep at them to get it, or ask suffolk family carers to help you.good luck louise
